WEEK 4

 

This week has been very exciting! It has been Health and Sports week!

 

We have completed lots of exciting activities such as;

  • Yoga
  • Running every day
  • Sports day
  • Zumba
  • Making and selling our own smoothies!

 

We created our own class shop named 'Fruitza!' and made our own smoothies, Banana Crush and the Joyful Smoothie! We have had lots of fun and have raised money to go towards our healthy breakfast!

 

 

Week 3

 

This week aliens have taken over our classroom!

Thank you very much for bringing in all of your fantastic creations!

 

In English this week we have created our own alien planet and wrote  fantastic character descriptions about our aliens! I am very proud of how hard everybody has worked this week!

Week 2

 

This week has been very fun!

 

In Maths the children have been learning all about 2D and 3D shape and loved creating their own wanted poster for the shape that stole our sweet box!

 

In our Learning Challenge topic the children have been looking at hot and cold countries and we have been comparing Liverpool to Kenya!

 

 

Welcome back 

This is our last half term in Year 1 as we are getting ready to move into Year 2.

 

We have lots of work to do in the next few weeks but today has been an exciting day. 

An alien has crash landed in our school garden and he is lost somewhere in our school. It is down to us to find him and make sure he is sent back home. While he is on Earth he is going to be learning about our planet.

We helped him find 13 jewels that he had lost and have written a letter back to him.

 

 

Our new topics for this half term include;

Maths - Shape and directions.

English - Dictionary skills and stories with a fantasy setting.

Science - What do aliens think of life on Earth?

Learning Challenge - Where in the world are we?

Christian Value - Generosity

Week 6

 

This week has been very exciting!

 

In English we have completed lots of writing activities and even wrote about the life cyle of a butterfly!

 

In Maths we have continued to look at time and have had lots of fun answering tricky time word problems.

 

In Science we have made our own leaflet about how to look after a plant.

 

In our Learning Challenge topic we made our own 'Pic Collage' all about the Beatles and had our very own 1KH talent show!

 

On Friday we also released our butterflies and had a butterfly party to celebrate!

Week 5

 

This week has been very busy!

 

In Maths we have started looking at time and focusing on activities that we do at different parts of the day.

 

In English we have completed lots of activities and have started to write our own recount about the story 'The Hungry Caterpillar'!

 

In Science we carried out an investigation about what plants need to grow. We have planted our own cress seeds and have put some in the dark and some in the sun! We will find out next week what will happen!

Week 4

 

This week has been very exciting!

 

In Maths this week we have been learning all about capacity and have even made our own invisibility potion using the right amount of ingredients!

 

In English we have continued to practise our phonics sounds and have been looking at the features of a recount!

 

In our Learning challenge topic we have been listening to The Beatles music and made our own Beatles timeline!

 

In Science we became bird watchers around the classroom and made our own binoculars to spot different British birds!

 

 

Week 3

 

This has been a very short week but as always still very busy!

 

In Maths we been looking at weight and have had lots of fun weighing items around class and deciding which will be the heaviest!

 

On Thursday we went on a trip to Stanley Park and found lots of different types of trees, plants and birds!

 

In English we wrote our own recount about our trip to Stanley park.

 

We also have special visitors in our classroom, the 1KH caterpillars! We had a class vote to choose their names and these were the winners;

Week 2

 

We have had lots of fun this week and have completed all of our activities!

 

In English we have been creating on our poems in the style of our favourite nursery rhymes and have had lots of fun making up and using our own rhyming words!

 

In Maths we have started our new measure topic! At the beginning of the week we were measuring lots of objects around school and used different objects to measure with!

Then at the end of the week we have started to use a ruler to help us measure which we have really enjoyed!

 

In Science we have been looking at flowers and plants and we now have our own class plant to look after! We can now label the parts of a plant.

 

In our Learning Challenge topic we had a lovely afternoon listening to Beatles and One Direction music and talking about the differences and similarities between them.

 

Week 1

 

This week has been a very busy first week back!

 

In English we have started our new topic, Poetry and have had lots of fun matching up and thinking of our own rhyming words!

 

In Maths we have continued to look and halves and quarters and have enjoyed solving lots of word problems!

 

In Science we have started our new topic - 'Which birds and plants would Little Red Riding Hood find in Stanley Park?' and we have looked at the features of a tree and the different types of trees!

 

Our new Learning Challenge question is 'Who are or where our local heroes?' This week we have been focusing on the History of Liverpool and Stanley Park.

Week 5

 

This week has been a very short week, but we still had lots to do!

 

In Maths we explored fractions for the first time and cut up shapes in halves and quarters!

 

In Science we looked at living and non-living things and had lots of fun testing different objects to see if they are alive!

 

We have also completed lots of activities about the Easter Story this week and enjoyed creating out own Easter cards and pictures!

Week 4

 

This week has been super busy!

 

We have learnt all about the equator, the South Pole and the North Pole in our Learning Challenge! We have even looked at maps and atlases to answer really tricky questions about the world!

 

In English we have written our own version of Handa's Surprise and can't wait to show you our work at parents' evening!

 

In Science we have written about the differences and similarities of pets and wild animals and gave some fantastic answers!

 

In Maths we have continued to look at division and we have worked really hard at tricky word problems!

Week 3

 

This week has been very busy! The children have completed lots of practical activities this week!

 

In Maths the children have been looking at division! This week we have been sharing objects into 2s and 5s and have been helping Oscar the meerkat to sort his sweets equally into his party bags!

 

In Science we created our own news reports to help make people aware of how to look after animals properly!

 

In our Learning Challenge topic we made our own invites to invite Sunny to our school for a party.

 

Week 2

 

This week has been fantastic! We had a super day in Chester Zoo on Thursday and seen lots of animals and wrote brilliant recounts about our trip in English!

 

In Science we continued exploring how to look after animals and created our own leaflets with lots with information about how to take care of animals and their needs!

 

In Maths we have been looking at arrays and have solved lots of tricky Maths problems!

 

 

 

Week 1

 

The first week back has been very exciting! We have started our new topics and even began Gymnastics.

 

In English we began our new topic, 'Stories from different cultures'. We have been reading 'Handa's Surprise' and have been sampling different types of fruit!

 

In Science we explored what pets we already know about and discussed what we need to do to look after them.

 

In our Learning Challenge, we asked the question 'Why can't Meerkats live in the North Pole?' and the children brought in some fantastic information for their homework! We looked at lots of clips about meerkats and we are really excited to go and see them in Chester zoo next week!

Week 6

 

The final week of Spring 2 has been very exciting!

We went to the Liverpool Museum and loved exploring and learning all about old and new toys!

 

In Maths we started to look at Doubling and Halving and enjoyed working out the tricky problems.

 

In Science we completed our final investigation and worked in teams with different materials to see who could build the tallest and strongest tower! We found out that the lego was definitely the strongest material that we used and loved testing all the materials using the wind and rain test!

 

In English we finished our fairy tales topic and completed our own fantastic versions of  Rapunzel!

Week 5

 

This week has been very exciting!

We have been focusing on DT and have planned, produced and evaluated our own 'Roly Poly' toy!

The children have really enjoyed designing their own toy and then making it themselves and testing it out around the classroom!

 

 

Week 4

 

This week has been extremely busy with lots of fun activities!

 

We have started our new Fairy Tales topic in English and have been looking at Snow White and Rapunzel. We even had a Fairy Tale afternoon on Thursday and enjoyed watching Cinderella with popcorn!

 

In Maths we have also started a new topic! We have started to look at multiplication and have learnt that it could mean times or lots of and made our own action to help us remember! We have been looking at counting in 2s, 10s and 5s this week and have even been counting with socks!

 

Science has been very exciting as we did our own investigation to see which material is the strongest for Rapunzel's tower!

 

 

Week 3!

 

This week we have completed fantastic addition and subtraction work, using units of measure, in maths and have worked really hard!

 

In English we wrote our own instructions about making our cheese and ham wraps and our work now looks beautiful in our writing gallery!

 

In Learning Challenge we learnt all about Alexander Graham Bell and how he invented the telephone! We then looked at how phones have changed throughout the years and made our own phone time line for our Learning Challenge display.

Week 2

 

This week has been very busy!

We have stated our new topic in English, Instructions, and followed a set of instructions to make our very own wrap and even got to eat it at the end!

 

In History we had a lovely afternoon looking at old toys and objects children had brought in and sorted toys into old and new boxes!

 

We have also continued to look at materials in Science and did a fantastic job sorting them into; metal, glass, plastic and wood.

 

Week 1

 

This has been a very exciting week as we have been introduced to our new topics in Science and Learning Challenge.

 

In Science we discussed what materials we already know and what Rapunzel's tower is made out of. We then went on a materials hunt around school and took lots of photos of our findings! We then worked in group to see who could build the tallest tower and found it very hard to keep it standing!

 

In learning challenge we were introduced to our new topic - 'What has changed since my Grandparent's were young?' We looked at toys and how they have changed and talked about what we think our Grandparent's would like as a toy when they were young.

 

On Friday we also started our new dance topic and the children loved learning the new dances and joining in!

Year 1 Curriculum overview 2015-2016

Information Letter Autumn 1

Welcome to year 1!

 

The children have settled in to 1KH and have had a fantastic first few days back!

 

This half term we are learning about tigers in science and finding out where do, and did, the wheels on the bus go for our learning challenge curriculum.
