Rio Samba dance

Week 5

This week has been very exciting! It has been Sports and Health week!

 

We have completed lots of exciting activities such as;

  • Yoga
  • dental and mental health activities
  • Sports day
  • Zumba
  • Making and selling our own smoothies!

 

We created our own class shop named 'Groovy Smoothies!' and made our own smoothie - Tropical Treasure! We have had lots of fun and have raised money to go towards our healthy breakfast.

 

Stars of the week - the whole of 1JH for amazing behaviour and enthusiasm this week!

Week 4

 

This week in our topic lessons we have been learning about the different carnivals across the world and have made our own carnival collage!

 

In Maths we have been working very hard and have been completing very difficult subtraction calculations!

 

Quick reminder - our Year 1 Creation assembly is on Friday 7th July at 9.00A.M. - invitations have been sent home this week.

Week 3

 

In our topic lessons this week we have been learning all about Brazil and listening to samba music and even made our own head dresses!

 

In Maths we have all been working extremely hard and completing very difficult addition calculations!

Week 2

 

This week has been very exciting as we had our class trip to Chester Zoo! The children had a fantastic day viewing all the animals and walking around the zoo!

 

In English we been reading our new class story - 'Handa's Surprise' and on Monday we tasted all the different fruits that are in the story!

 

This week we have also been decorating our own biscuits and making our own cup cake flowers.

 

On Friday we had a special visit from Mrs Mac and she showed the children how to make their own pic collage of all the animals that we spotted in the zoo!

Week 1

 

This week we have carried out the investigation 'Are all leaves the same?'. The children enjoyed talking about the different features of the leaves and drawing their partners descriptions of the leaves.

Week 5

 

This week has been very busy!

 

For our topic lesson we have been observing our own caterpillars grow into beautiful butterflies and on Friday we had a fantastic butterfly party! We found a suitable habitat for the butterflies and released them into the wild then created lots of beautiful butterfly pictures and had a butterfly snack! Also in our topic lessons we made our own animal habitats!

 

In art we finished off making our own ladybirds and bumble bees.

 

Me and Miss Francis both wish you all have a lovey half term and will see you all again on Tuesday 6th June :)

Week 4

 

In art this week we have been looking at the artist 'Anthony Goldsworthy' and how he uses natural objects to make art. We then made our own insects in class.

 

In Maths we have been looking at money and time and we even made our own clock!

Week 3

 

This week we have had lots of fun!

 

In our topic lessons we have been spending a lot of time looking at different flowers and trees in our school garden, and made our own binoculars to go bird hunting in class!

 

In Maths we have been looking at money this week and even built our own shop at Golden Time on Friday!

Week 2

 

This week we have continued to learn about time, we have all become time travellers and been solving tricky time problems in the past and future!

 

In our topic lessons we have had lots of fun drawing different flowers and looking at different trees and matching the leaves to the correct tree!

 

Homework - to go on a woodland walk and collect flowers and leaves.

Welcome back!

Hope you have all had a lovely Easter break!

 

This week we have continued learning about time in Maths and have had some lessons where we have been applying our knowledge on time so far. We have also started our new topic which is The Enchanted Woodland. We have created a map of what we might see as we walk through a woodland and have started to look in science at trees and plants. We have now know all the parts of a plant and their job. Did you know that the petals attract insects? 

We have had some really good discussions in class this week about why we are so amazing and special. We wrote a balloon about what makes each of us so wonderful and we came up with some fantastic reasons!

Week 6

 

This week we had a special visit to the Museum of Liverpool. The children loved learning all about old and new toys and the different materials that they are made out of. They also really enjoyed dressing up in all the different outfits!

 

Quick reminder - PE kits will be sent home this half term to be washed but can they please be returned when we come back to school on the 24/4/17, thank you.

week 5

 

In Maths this week we have continued to look at measure and focusing on capacity and weight. The children loved seeing and estimating which containers could hold the most water and weighing different objects around the classroom!

 

This week we also had a special visit from 'Little Foot' and played lots of team building games and enjoyed working together as a team.

 

In our topic lessons we made our own paper Mache Solar System! we had lots of fun and we were all very sticky!

Week 4

 

We have been very busy this week!

 

In Maths we have been learning all about measure and have been measuring things all around our school using our hands! We have also been looking at weight and have been deciding if different objects are heavy or light.

 

In our topic lessons we have been learning all about space history and found out that a dog, a monkey and insects have all been into space!

Week 3

 

We have had a 'Science week' this week and have been exploring lots of different materials and their properties.

 

We looked at some objects found by the alien crash site and the children loved describing it and touching all the different samples!

This week has been very exciting!

 

An alien spaceship crash landed in our garden! The children were all very excited and loved hunting around the school for all of his magic jewels!

 

In our topic lessons we have also been learning all about space and created our own fact file about Neil Armstrong!

This half term in our topic theme is 'Moon Zoom', the children will be learning all about Space and the Planets.

 

In Maths we will be looking at division, measure and time.

 

In English we will be looking at the story 'Aliens love Underpants'.

 

Week 1

 

The week has been extremely exciting!

 

On Thursday it was world book day and the children had lots of fun around the school! In my group we read the 'Scarecrow's Wedding' and had our own wedding fashion show!

 

In Maths we have been looking at sharing and the children have really enjoyed sharing the sweets with their partners to work out the division calculations.

This week the children have been looking at multiplication in Maths and have all been working incredibly hard!

 

In our topic lessons the children have enjoyed drawing and painting their own family portraits!

Week 6

 

As part of our Memory Box topic this week, we shared a wonderful afternoon with people from our families. We had an Afternoon Tea and we were able to complete different activities with them such as Victorian games, old fashioned toys, colouring in pictures, board games and there was a reading area. We also had photographs of all our learning that we do in school. It was a fantastic afternoon and a huge thank you to all that attended!

 

On Friday we also created our own Memory Box and talked about all the wonderful things we would like to put inside.

Week 5

 

This week has been very busy!

 

In Science we carried out our own investigations to find out why we have two eyes! Test 1 involved standing with a partner with a pencil and closing our eyes, and then we tried to touch the tips of our pencils without looking.

Test 2 involved working in partners with a cup and coin, and taking turns to close your eyes whilst your partner tells you when to drop to coin when it is above the cup.

 

On Thursday we had a special visit from the author and illustrator Nick Sharratt! The children loved listening to his stories and drawing along!

Week 4

 

This week we have been learning all about how to double and half numbers to 20. The children have all worked really hard and tried their best this week in our Math's lessons.

 

In Science we have been looking at the changes between a baby, child, teenager and an adult. The children enjoyed writing about the things that have changed about them and the activities they can now do as a child.

Week 3

 

In our topic lessons this week we have been looking at items from the past, such as an old camera and TV, and talking about how they are different now.

 

In English we have been reading the story 'Owl Babies' and this week the children enjoyed writing their own sentences about the story.

 

In Maths we have been learning all about inverse and looking at the 2 times table!

Week 2

 

This week has been very busy indeed!

 

On Monday we had a very exciting visit from Google Expeditions! The children got to explore the Solar System and even explored the North Pole and seen Santa! The children really enjoyed using the App and it is free to download to enjoy at home. It is called 'Google Expeditions' and is available for Android and Apple devices.

 

In Science we enjoyed playing 'Guess Who' with all of our baby photographs that the children have brought in.

 

On Thursday we had our very own teddy bear's picnic! The children loved to dress up in their pyjamas and tell the other children all about their favourite teddy bear! The children also wrote some fantastic sentences all about their favourite teddy bear.

Welcome back!

Hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas break :)

 

Week 1

 

This half term our new topic is called 'Memory Box' and we will be focusing on History.

We have already had a visit from my Grandma, who talked about her childhood and it how it was very different to the children's experiences now!

 

We have also planned to have a teddy bear's picnic next week which a letter will be sent out on Monday with more information.

 

On Friday we also had a special visit from MGL, who showed the children how to use a very exciting app called 'Scratch JR' on the Ipads.

We made it! Well done to all the children for all their hard work this term!

Week 7

 

This week has been really exciting!

 

Thank you all for coming to see our wonderful Nativity, the children have worked so hard and it was fantastic to see them all dressed up and remembering all of their lines! We will be sending pictures home next week of the children in their costumes. 

 

This week we also all made our own Christingles and had our very own assembly in the hall were some children lit their Christingles!

 

 

Week 6

 

This week has been so busy!

 

In Science we have made our own bread this week! The children enjoyed working in partners making their own bread rolls and getting to taste their own freshly baked bread as well as taking some home to share!

 

In our topic lessons the children have been making their own houses for our Great Fire of London topic. The children loved adding their own 'flames' to make it look like their house was on fire!

This week has been very fun!

 

We have been learning all about our number bonds to 10 in Maths and even made up our own song!

 

In Science our topic is 'How to make Bread' and this week we tasted lots of different types of breads and discussed which ones we liked and which ones we did not!

Week 4

 

This week has been yet another busy week!

 

The children have started to learn about addition in Maths and have really enjoyed their new challenges.

 

In our topic lessons we have been learning all about the Great Fire of London and the children have been really interested in what happened and have even asked to find out more information.

Week 3

 

This week has been very fun!

 

We have been learning all about friendship and talking about Anti-bullying.

 

We have completed lots of activities based around this and have even worked with Year 4 to make kindness hearts to hang from our own buddy tree in the playground!

 

On Monday we had a special treat and had a pantomime in school! We watched Pinocchio and the children really enjoyed it! 

We also had a visit from Pudsey Bear for Children in Need!

Week 2

 

This week has been very busy!

 

We went on a minibus trip all around Liverpool and we seen:

  • Everton FC                  Liverpool FC
  • Stanley Park               Radio city tower
  • The Cathedral             Big wheel
  • China town                 Albert Dock
  • Liver Buildings            Museum 

 

We also made our own poppies for our Remembrance Day assembly and made our own maps and found our hidden places around the school!

On Monday we had our very own Tea Party for the King and Queen! We also had a class vote to choose a King and Queen from our class.

Welcome back!

 

Hope you all had a wonderful half term!

 

Our new topic for Autumn 2 is Bright Lights Big City. This half term we will be focusing on geography skills as the children will be learning the four countries and the capital cities of the UK with a specific focus on London.

 

In Science our topics are 'How do we make bread?' and 'How does it move?'

We are hoping to have a visit from Warburton's to help us with our bread topic :)

 

Can I please remind all children to bring their PE kits back to school if they took them home at half term.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Week 7

What an amazing final week to end our half term!

 

The children have carried out numerous scientific experiments to find out 'What their hands can do?'

These include:

Completing a jigsaw puzzle

Ordering straws in size order

Ordering sandpaper from roughest to smoothest

Putting their hands in hot and cold water to feel the effects.

 

We have also had some special visitors this week!

On Tuesday we had 'Littlefoot' and completed lots of team building activities together.

 

On Thursday we had a special visit from the local police and they shared with the children their special superpowers and answered lots of the children's questions.

 

Homework - To create a leaf animal, to complete the Autumn checklist and help the children to 'find Autumn' and to complete the tasks set on My Maths.

Week 6

 

This week has been very busy!!

 

The children have been learning all about the parts of the body and had to put their hand inside the mystery box to feel and describe the hidden body part! There were lots of very brave children!

 

In DT we made our own superhero pizzas! The children loved choosing their own healthy toppings and talking about what superpowers it will give them! They then tried out their new powers on the playground.

This week we have been learning and exploring our 5 senses;

We even carried out our own experiment using all 5 of our senses!

This week has been very exciting!

 

On Thursday we had an International day and our class learnt lots of new and interesting facts about Hungary. We also made our own Hungarian flags and tasted some Hungarian food!

 

We have been look at one more and one less numbers in Maths which the children have really enjoyed.

 

In English we have wrote our first recount about our International day!

Welcome to year 1!

 

The children have settled in to our new class and have had a fantastic first few days back!

 

This half term our topic is all about superheroes and we have lots of exciting activities to look forward to!
