This week has been a very busy week...

Week 4

In Maths we have been looking at measuring capacity! We measured and compared the amount of water we could fit into different sized bottles. Luckily it was a hot, sunny day so we dried quickly!!

Summer 2

Week 1

Welcome back! We have had an exciting start to the new term. In Science, we have planted radish seeds to test what materials they will grow best in. We will have to wait weeks for the results!

Week 5

For the start of our Science topic on plants, we have looked at plants and trees in our school garden and made observational drawings. We also drew the different parts of a flowering plant.

We also visited Stanley Park to investigate flowing plants and trees in the local environment. We had a reading picnic with our favourite books from our class reading corner and some snacks and drinks to cool us down! Even though it was an incredibly hot day, we still had a chance to play on the playground!
Our class has had amazing attendance this term! We are very proud of our certificates!

Week 4

Year 2 have all worked so hard this week on their SATs but we have been lucky to have some time to have fun and get creative! We have been having lots of extra P.E. and art and craft lessons. Look at all the fantastic things we have made:

Week 3

For R.E. this term, we enjoyed using all our collected boxes to make models of churches. Look at our creations!

This week we have enjoyed reading, Mr. Wolf's Pancakes. We are going to write our own version. Enjoy it at home too...

Week 3

Slow Down For Bobby

We had a school assembly about road safety. We shared the book SUPERBOB and learnt the best ways to stay safe on the roads.

Week 2

Our new Collective Worship theme this term is Trust. We have been playing trust games and working as a team.

This week we have been drawing self portraits to show how we are all special to Jesus. We used pastels to add colour and shade.

Spring 2

Week 1

For world book day, we worked in groups throughout the school doing lots of exciting activities! In the 2KW classroom, children made puppets and re-enacted a story as puppeteers.

Week 5

What an artistic week we've had! We have taken inspiration from the Liverpool born artist, Carl Warner and created our own fantastic 'foodscapes' from fruit, vegetables and lots of other foods!

Not only have we been creating masterpieces out of food but we have been using our sketching skills for a 'draw along' with the famous illustrator Nick Sharrat! Some of us even joined in with his story telling and got our favourite books signed!

We are looking forward to Nick Sharratt coming into school to host a draw along with us on Thursday 2nd February.

Week 4

In our topic, we have been learning all about Henri Matisse. We have been recreating his art and making our version of 'The Snail'.

Week 3

For our science topic, the school nurse came into our class this week to talk about hygiene and hand washing. We used UV gel and a UV machine to see the germs on our hands. Can you see all the germs?! The nurse also showed us the best way to wash our hands to remove germs.

Lost and Found - Oliver Jeffers

We have enjoyed reading Oliver Jeffers' books in class and have been using Lost and Found to inspire our writing in Mrs McCann's English Group and Mrs Sheeran& Mrs Thurgood's English Group.

Spring letter

Week 2

This term we are having a gymnastics lesson on Monday afternoons, please make sure children have their PE kit in school.

We have had a fantastic afternoon with Google Expeditions using smart phones to explore under the sea!

We have started our new topic: Muck, Mess and Mixtures with a very messy afternoon! Everyone had lots of fun and created some fantastic memories... Don't forget to check out the other year 2 class pages for more photos!

Spring 1

Week 1

Our new topic this term is Muck, Mess and Mixtures! We will be doing lots of art activities so let's get creative! Please bring in a large old shirt T-shirt to wear over your clothes to get mucky.

Week 4

Despite the rain and the cold, we had an amazing time at Acorn farm! We fed and stroked some very friendly and some quite STINKY animals. Have a look at the photos and see how many different animals we met.

We also found out about some of the things animals need to survive and how important it is to wash our hands after feeding animals!

In Topic/DT this week, we have been using our bridge building and Engineering skills to build bridges using marshmallows and spaghetti! We found it SO hard not to eat the marshmallows!! We tested our bridges to see how many pennies they could hold.

Week 3

We have had a fabulous 'Forgiveness Week'.

We have made helping hands with Year 5, learnt how to use breathing to calm ourselves down and talked about forgiveness.

In R.E. this week we have been acting out 'Feeding the 5000. We used loaves and fish and retold the bible story to the rest of our class. 

Week 2

We have had a fabulous time making castles out of all the cardboard boxes sent in from home...thank you!

We even included turrets, draw bridges and the keep in our designs!

For Remembrance Day we made poppies and wore them for Year 6's assembly.

We found it really interesting looking at Lewis's dad's medals too! Thank you Mr Hough! Lewis was very proud to show them to us.

Autumn term 2

Week 1

Our new topic this term is Towers, Tunnels and Turrets! We have had a fantastic time learning about the different features of a castle. We even built our own castle walls then knocked them down with different projectiles to test them for strength.

In maths we have been using number bonds to ten to solve other addition problems.

Week 7

Half term homework:

We have had a very exciting week this week...

Littlefoot have come into school and helped with our team building skills. We have worked together to make Pirate ships out of blocks, worked as a team to keep our feet dry on a Pirate ship and used our listening skills to find treasure!

In our Land Ahoy topic, we have been programming the Bee-bots to navigate around the treasure map and find the treasure.

Week 6

Visit to the Black Pearl in New Brighton: Year 2 had a fantastic time exploring the Black Pearl, meeting pirates and singing sea shanties!

Week 5

we have been working hard in maths this week and made a 'human number line'. We have been estimating where numbers go on our number line and putting numbers in order!

The children who visited Crosby Hall last week are very proud of their certificates! Well done 2KW, you were fabulous!

Week 4

In Maths, we have been working hard adding 2 digit numbers to number lines.

In English, we have been using punctuation to make our writing more exciting!

 

Some of Year 2 had a residential trip to Crosby Hall. We joined in with lots of exciting activities such as photography, obstacle courses, pottery, crossing a swamp and even learning how to make our beds!!

Week 3

In our Land Ahoy Topic, we have been learning all about explorers such as Captain Cook, Christopher Columbus and Ellen McArthur. We have been finding out about Caption Cooks explorations and finding them on a map.

 

In Science, we have been discovering what shape of plasticine floats the best. Look at the boats that we have made!

In English, we have been writing postcards to our family from a desert island. We have been thinking of all the exciting words we can use to describe what we can see on the island.

 

In Science, we have been on a materials hunt around the playground. Can you spot the metal, wood, plastic and brick?
