Poetry

This week we are performing poetry. Here are some links of a few of our favourite Michael Rosen poems...

Sports Day. Well done 2ST for a brilliant performance in all your races!

Enterprise Challenge

We loved making and selling our own healthy fruit pots. Our product was so popular we sold out. We're going to use our profits to share a healthy breakfast with our class on the last day of term.

Health and Wellbeing Week - we read Silly Billy and made our own worry dolls. We spoke about different fears and who we could get help from.

Welcome Back

Welcome back after the half-term holidays. We are really excited about everything we will be learning during our final half-term in Year Two. Our topic will be Street Detectives. We will be learning about some of the famous land marks in our areas and using maps to locate them. We will also find out how the streets in Walton have changed over the last 100 years.

Our Christian Value is service. We will be thinking about the people in our school and community who serve us, as well as how we can serve others. We will be leading our class assembly, on the theme of service, on Friday 30th June at 9am. We really hope you can come and watch us.

Fathers' Day Cards

We made Fathers' Day cards to thank our dads, grandads and uncles for the different ways they help and serve us.

Reading Picnic

After all our hard work during SATs week, we enjoyed a book picnic in Stanley Park. We all brought our favourite book and enjoyed sharing them with our friends and teachers. We also continued work on our science topic by observing different species of flowers and finding out how dandelions disperse their seeds.

Lost and Found - Oliver Jeffers

We have enjoyed reading Oliver Jeffers' books in class. Here is an animated version of Lost and Found. Can you spot the differences between it and the book? Children in Mrs McCann's English group and Mrs Sheeran & Mrs Thurgood's are using the book to inspire their writing.

Spring letter

Welcome Back 2ST!

We'd like to wish a Happy New Year to all our children and their families. 2017 will be an exciting year in our class, with lots of new topics to explore. We will be starting the year with our Muck, Mess and Mixtures topic. During the topic, we will be learning about the work of some famous artists and experimenting with different techniques to produce our own original art work. The first artist we will learn about is Henri Matisse and next week we will be producing a giant collage, inspired by his work. There will be lots of paint involved so please send your child to school on Monday with an old t-shirt in their book bag, for them to wear over their uniform when we are painting. Watch this space for photos of the masterpieces we are going to create!

Acorn Farm Trip

We had a brilliant time at Acorn Farm. We learnt about what animals need to stay healthy and had the opportunity to feed cows, sheep and goats. Their tongues were very tickly on our hands! We also stroked rabbits, looked at some two-day old baby chicks and even squeezed in a quick visit to the playground.

Castle Creating

The knights of 2ST accepted the challenge of creating castles using recycled materials. Great fun whist learning to work co-operatively as part of a team, manipulating materials and solving problems together and learning about the significant features of castles.

Well done 2ST Mrs Sheeran was very proud of the way you worked today!

Castles from the Clouds: Beaumaris Castle

Explore a castle in Wales by video! How many feature can you identify?
The CADW wales channel has lots of other videos of castles for you to explore too.

Towers, Tunnels and Turrets!

2ST have had a lot of fun this week, starting work on our new topic. We will be learning all about castles and the people who used to live in them. We made our own model castles. Can you spot our moats and drawbridges in the photos? In science, we investigated what material would make the best projectile in a medieval catapult. We discovered that heavy objects knocked down more of the bricks in our castles.

Half Term Homework.

Well done everyone who brought in something to show us all to do with our new topic. We loved looking at the creative castles you made, the beautiful drawings and hearing about visits to castles too. One class member brought in an amazing pack of information that taught all the grown ups in 2ST lots of new facts.

You really are super stars!

Trip to the Black Pearl!

On Tuesday, half of our class went to visit the Black Pearl pirate ship, on New Brighton beach. We captained the ship, walked the plank and even met some real pirates, who taught us their favourite sea shanties. The rest of our class are visiting on Thursday, so watch this space for more photos of our pirate crew.

International Day of Languages

We had a fantastic day on Thursday, learning about other cultures and languages. A new boy from Belgium has recently joined our class. We learnt more about his home country and tried some waffles, a popular Belgian snack. In the afternoon, three different parents visited our class to tell us about their home countries. We did some Romanian dancing, found out more about life in Kuwait and tried some delicious Eritrean food. Thank you to all the parents who gave up their time to make our day so exciting.

We made models of the Atomium, a famous Belgian landmark.

Welcome to 2ST!

We hope you are pleased to be back in school and are already enjoying being in Year two. Your teachers are Mrs. Sheeran and Mrs. Thurgood. Mrs. Sheeran teaches you on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Mrs. Thurgood teaches you on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We work with our two teaching assistants Miss. McKeown and Miss. Maddox. If you have any questions you can always speak to one of us at the door, at the end of the day.

We have lots of exciting topics planned for the year. Our first theme is Pirates. We've already enjoyed a pirate treasure hunt and drawn our own pirate portraits. Keep checking our class page for more photos of the exciting learning we will do during our topic.
