Class 5GM

Summer

This term our topic is Allotment and Beast Creator. We shall be learning all about plants and insects. We shall be working outside in the garden area at school to plant lots of different vegetables. We shall study their life cycles and explore pollination and germination. Lots of plants need a pollinator to make sure seeds can grow so we will also look at some of the insects found in the UK. Why don't you have a trip to the World Museum in Liverpool to have a look at some of their insects? They have drawers and drawers of butterflies and beetles.

We shall be reading Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo for English and writing reports on mini-beasts.

In Maths we shall be reminding ourselves about rounding, multiplication, division and percentages.

We shall also be learning about puberty. A letter to explain his will be on its way soon.

Please make sure your child has a water bottle in school everyday and a hat when/if it gets hot.

The children used oil pastels to draw different fruit.

We are always being reminded of how to stay safe when using the Internet. Most of us have electronic devices that we use to communicate with and we thought about these in the form of our own 'digital footprints'. We watched a brief but effective film clip all about the importance of being careful to think about the information that we share online.

How time flies! We are already almost a couple of weeks into the half term we have been really busy. Last week we enjoyed a visit from a man from Google who brought some interactive goggles with him so that we could experience a virtual tour around the pyramids of Egypt. We had great fun but felt quite dizzy too!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Year 5 will be looking at Pharaohs this half term and a special event awaits us on Monday 9th of January. Hope you have all had a great Christmas - see you on Wednesday. smiley

Welcome to 5GM!

Mrs Monteiro and Mrs McKenzie are looking forward to a great school year... full of wonderful work and fabulous fun.

This term we are looking at The Tudors ('Off with Her Head') and the children have already written a biography of Henry Vlll and made Tudor roses.

Swimming lessons have started (Friday afternoons) so don't forget to have a costume and towel ready each week.
