Publishing our fantastic writing

We have been extremely hard at work all week, planning, drafting, editing and now publishing our fantastic writing. This week the children have written their own newspaper report all about the events in New York, when King Kong escaped and rampaged through the streets!

The children have worked really hard and this morning enjoyed publishing their final pieces of writing.

We hope that you enjoyed reading the copies they brought home too!

Scream Machine

This term our new Cornerstones topic is 'Scream Machine.' We will be researching all about where theme parks are located around the world and putting our map skills to the test. We will also be exploring the forces used on a range of different roller coasters.

To begin our topic, we had a great time creating our own marble runs using a range of paper and cardboard materials. The hard bit was making sure the marble didn't roll off!

This morning we all attended St Mary's Church for our Christingle service. It was a lovely service and we all enjoyed taking part and singing the Christmas songs. We have all made our own Christingle and this afternoon we llt the candles.

Solar System Models

We have really enjoyed learning all about our Solar System this term and have found out so much information. We know all about how the Earth moves around the sun, whilst spinning on its own axis. We have investigated the force of gravity and we have really enjoyed learning all about Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon. To finish of our topic, we have been designing and creating our own models of the Solar System using paper mache and mod-rock. It's been very messy in 5JC but we've had a great time.

Super Stargazer!

Look what this superstar has made at home. A fantastic model of the Solar system, complete with twinkling stars. Well done!

Thankfulness Week

For Anti bullying week this year, we got together with 1JQ and thought about how we could be good friends. We helped each other to write thank you cards, thanking each other for the friendships that we share.

 Children in Need

We all did our bit to help raise money for Children in Need on Friday 17th November. We all paid a contribution to wear out own clothes to school. We had a great day joining in all of the fun and thinking about those who need our help and support.

Reading Buddies

This week we spent some time sharing stories with our reading buddies from Year 2.

We had a fantastic time this week learning all about archery in the middle ages. Then we had a go ourselves.

Princes, Peasants and Pestilence

Our topic this half term has been all about the Middle ages. We have really enjoyed finding out about the past and especially about the Black Death! Our topic has given us the opportunity to explore how England has changed, listen to medieval music and create some fantastic dance moves and even explore how bacteria spreads. Take a look at some of our photos to see how we got on...

Homework in 5JC

This year, the children will be receiving

  • Weekly spellings given out every Monday in preparation for a spelling test every Friday

Welcome back!

Welcome to 5JC. We hope you all had a wonderful summer and are ready for a fantastic year ahead.

We have already begun our new topic, 'Pests, Princes and Pestilence' and are all very excited to learn more about the Great Plague.

Just a reminder that PE will be every Friday so please make sure that you have your kit in school so that you are prepared for our lessons.
