Welcome to 6HP! We are looking forward to working really hard in our final year at Arnot St Mary!
Our teachers are Miss Hall and Miss Peverall. We also have Mrs Rankin and Miss Jones helping us too.
We have P.E. every Friday so kits need to be remembered.
Maths and English homework is given every Monday and is expected back in by Friday when we have our weekly spelling test. There will also be extra arithmetic homework on a Friday which is expected in by Monday.
Reading is just as important in Year 6 and it is expected that reading records are filled in every night.
We have done lots of different activities for the Victorians this half term and it has been amazing to see how interested the children really are. We have been on a hunt around the building for Victorian features, baked some Victorian biscuits, sang some Parlour music with Miss Haugh's harp and completed some artwork in the style of William Morris. The children have loved it.
Miss Leech and Miss Peverall delivered a P.E. lesson in the style of a Victorian Drill. We marched, did arm lifts and had to obey all of the commands from the teachers. If we didn't obey the commands, we were punished by being sent to the 'Dunce's Corner'. Luckily, no one received the cane!
This half term we are going to find all about super-strict Victorian classrooms - we need to make sure we're on our best behaviour though, as punishments are unquestionably terrible!
We will also discover a time when great minds thought new thoughts and ingenious inventors created so many things we take for granted today: the electric light bulb, the telephone and even the flushing toilet!
On our first day of Year 6 we completed a team building exercise to help us get to know each other. We had to use spaghetti and marshmallows to build the tallest, free-standing structure we could. Have a look to see how we got on. Who do you think won?
