Computing

How Computing is taught at Arnot St Mary

At Arnot St. Mary, we intend that children should master Computing to such an extent that they can go on to have careers within Computing and make use of Computing effectively in their everyday lives. Our children will be taught to use technology responsibly and carefully, being mindful of how their behaviour, words and actions can affect others. Our children will be taught Computing in a way that ensures progression of skills, and follows a sequence to build on previous learning. Our children will gain experience and skills of a wide range of technology in a way that will enhance their learning opportunities, enabling them to use technology across a range of subjects to be creative and solve problems, ensuring they make progress.

By the time they leave Arnot St. Mary, children will have gained key knowledge and skills in the three main strands of the National Curriculum for Computing (2014). These strands are: computer science (programming and understanding how digital systems work), information technology (using computer systems to create, store, retrieve and send information) and digital literacy (evaluating digital content and using technology safely and respectfully). The depth and breadth of our coverage aims to provide all our children with a solid grounding for future learning and the ability to become active and responsible digital citizens in the modern world.

Enrichment in Computing

Children are offered the opportunity to further develop their skills at our after-school club. The Computing Club offers pupils a chance learn how to code, create and understand past, present and future technology in our lives. Children have access to a wide variety of modern technology to enhance their learning experiences across the curriculum and not just in computing. The school can offer children the chance to use technology such as: iPads; Apple Mac Desktops; Now Press Play headsets; BBC Micro:bits; Beebots and a green screen to ensure children from EYFS to Year 6 are fully immersed and are competent digital citizens.IMG 0374IMG 0483
