PSHE

How PSHE is taught at Arnot St Mary

At Arnot St Mary we are committed to ensuring all pupils are encouraged and nurtured to become curious, creative, critical thinkers, who are engaged and excited by their learning and develop a rich academic, social, spiritual, and cultural capital.

PSHE encompasses all areas designed to promote children’s personal, social and health development. It gives children the knowledge, skills and understanding that they need to stay healthy and safe, develop worthwhile relationships, respect differences, develop independence and responsibility, and make the most of their own abilities and those of others.

Our SMSC curriculum, British Values and core values are interwoven across the curriculum so that key messages of equality, diversity, acceptance and mutual respect are constantly reinforced and embedded.

We have included strong links to our English curriculum and we focus half-termly as a whole school on carefully selected picture books to support the exploration and understanding of key themes. The links are also related to our British Values and Christian Values and evidence is shown through our whole school display and floor books.

Enrichment in PSHE

We plan for themed weeks or days during the year such as anti-bullying week which we link to our Christian values, Children’s Mental Health Week, Safer Internet Day, World Mental Health Day, enterprise and sports week. We support national charity days such as Children in Need and Red Nose Day.

We have strong links with LFC Foundation and take part in many PSHE workshops both hold at school or at Anfield.  These include anti knife crime and bully buster sessions.

We also have workshops with SportsAlive to teach our Year 4 children basic first aid.
